Volunteer

Thanks for checking out this important part of the service on offer.

Volunteers will be assisting with this Hackney Council backed community initiative to get fresh fruit and vegetables at affordable prices to local people. Based in one of three locations in Manor House, Hoxton and Stamford Hill for a minimum of 4 hours on one day, a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, you will be helping to establish long term community markets, run by the local community for the local community.

You will help at various stages of set up to delivery, from getting the wholesale deliveries of surplus fresh produce to three locations:

Role Overview

STAGE 1 Market Day prep:

Working at Stamford Hill, the job will be to help sort the fresh produce ready for transporting by checking pre-orders and quantities for the 3 centers, then organising them for ease of loading and delivery.

STAGE 2 Market Day:

At each of the Bloom Market location the tasks will be:

  • unload and organise the deliveries for ease of set up distribution to customers,

  • assist with any setting up at the site following instructions from a community representative,

  • welcoming customers and checking names against orders or for walk-ins on the day,

  • helping customers get the right order and assist with walk-in customers getting what’s on offer on the day,

  • taking payments,

  • Assist with clearing up, organising any return produce ready to be collected and leaving the centers in good order,

  • Joining in with making refreshments and covering for others if you’re free and they need a break.

You will be asked to be flexible depending on what needs doing at the time, following instructions from the Market Manager on the day.

We hope you can join us on this exciting project, if you’d like to get involved or have any further questions
